Siliguri lies beside the Himalayan Mountains. The Himalayan mountain range affects the climate of Siliguri considerably. Siliguri has five seasons summer, monsoon, autumn, winter and spring. The average temperature of Siliguri is about 35º C. During summer the temperature rarely exceeds 38°C.It is hottest from the month of May to mid June. As Siliguri lies in the shadows of Himalayas, it is comparatively cooler than the central and southern regions of West Bengal. During this season, tourists from all over the world halt here and then en route to different hill stations. The monsoon season starts from mid-June and lasts up to September. At this time Siliguri is lashed by heavy rain. Sometimes it causes some catastrophe by blocking road links to the hills due to landslides. The annual rainfall ranges from 200mm to 4000mm.During the month of July and August intense rainfall up to 200 mm per day has been recorded. Some part of the town also faces water logging. The climate is suitable for growing tea and surrounding region of Siliguri has many tea gardens. A windy condition prevails in the autumn season. Winters are relatively cool and temperature ranges from 3°C to15°C. From mid-December to early January the temperature drops down to 8-10º C. Dense fog and light rain are experienced during this season.
